Ichiro; classy man or classiest man? →

This is a cool story. Turns out that Ichiro spent part of Monday visiting the St. Louis grave of Hall of Famer George Sisler, whose single-season hits record he broke in 2004. Ichiro very much wanted to pay his respects to Sisler, and brought flowers to leave at the gravesite.

That’s awesome. And makes me...
No. Just, no.
Annals of stupidity
“Missouri State Representative Cynthia Davis is one tough cookie. Last week she opposed subsidizing school lunches for low income children during summer months saying, “Hunger can be a positive motivator.”
This is excellent news considering 1 in 5 Missouri kids is living in hunger, so that state is due for a productivity boon.”

Know anyone in Seattle who could use $40?
Halp! There’s an open house today for an apartment I’m really excited about. Problem is that it’s in Seattle, and I’m in New York. So if you know anyone in Seattle that could visit an apartment today for about 20 minutes in order to look around and take some pictures for me, that would be sweet. I’ll pay them in cash ($40) and undying gratitude.
The apartment is in...

For the two of you who care. The rest of you can just scroll on by.
Got my LSAT score back. And, um, not to brag or anything, but I totally fucking rocked it. (Yes, you’re right, it is bragging. Cut me a little slack, I’m excited!)
Still trying to figure out how the hell I get myself and my stuff out to Seattle in September. Can’t really afford to rent a car or hire a moving...

Oh, hai guys. Sorry I’ve been pretty much entirely gone. But I’m back, for a minute! With another job posting! This one is in DC, and it’s for a public policy assistant. Requires a college degree, office experience, and interest in reproductive health. Partly administrative, but also some good policy-related project work.
Email me if you’re interested. I’ve got to go...
Well, ok then.
Main Entry: gy·ro Pronunciation: \ˈyē-ˌrō, ˈzhir-ō\ Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural gyros Etymology: Modern Greek gyros turn, from Greek; from the rotation of the meat on a spit Date: 1971 Merriam-Webster to the rescue (click the pronounciations to listen). Though, as my friend said, that’s one white computer.
Tell me, tumblrs. When you order a gyro from the street carts, how do you pronounce it?
Job opening in public health research
FYI, y’all: my organization is hiring for a couple of positions in reproductive health research. One position is more administrative, but will likely still include some project work. Both positions are best for someone with 0-2 years of experience and a genuine interest in reproductive health. Pay is quite decent (for a non-profit) and it’s an incredible place to work.
If you’re...
So: the LSATs are done, the half marathon is done, a bit of pre-move packing is done, and a little bit of sleeping has been done too.
Now I need to figure out how to convince my brain and body that it’s finally ok to relax.
Suddenly, I'm in the mood for iced tea
Dear [Mintygreen],
Thanks for writing regarding The Huffington Post story about KRXQ. We found the segment to be offensive as well, and as a result, we are pulling our Snapple advertising from the station. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention. Regards, Greg

Speaking of privilege…
As a straight person, you generally don’t have to worry that people will encourage violence against you in childhood.
This is beyond fucking gross.

My poor roommate is in bed, in the same position she was in when I left for work this morning. She’s said about eight words to me today, and five of them were “I can’t drink vodka anymore.” This is not going to be a good night.

That’s impossible. Girls don’t make jokes.
Dear LSAT,
I am sick of studying for you. Specifically, for your stupid fucking logic games. I do not care if it is possible for Nat to order the swordfish. I do not care whether or not the paleontologist is able to learn both Swahili and Rundi. I especially do not care about the ability of Yolanda to repair radios, and whether or not that ability is related to Wim’s facility with the inner workings of...
The number of U.S. abortion providers has been declining for many years; as a result, a growing number of women have difficulty obtaining abortion services in a timely manner. The overwhelming majority of abortion providers offer services in the first trimester, when nearly 90% of abortions occur. But at later gestations—when abortions due to fetal anomalies and threats to a woman’s health or...

Perhaps it’s an issue of privacy, or lack of intuition and empathy, but many anti-abortion people don’t have much of an idea about the female experience when it comes to that subject.
Or, for that matter, the male experience. Abortion affects people. In general. And it should be considered in that context. The decisions surrounding pregnancy and childbirth are complicated and...

Whether you are pro-choice or anti-abortion, this should be a call to work even harder to make sure that women and children have the care they need at every step of the way. To work for change in our prison system so that more children can be raised in two-parent families and more men can learn from their mistakes and become productive members of society— role models, even. To work for...

Things contributing to my bad mood: I didn’t bring lunch, and didn’t have time to go get it before I got massively hungry…so I ate about half of a salami, because that’s what was left over in the fridge. I feel a tid bit like vomiting just now.
Oohhh Minty.

OK. No. This infuriates me. I spend a lot of time fighting against the crazy folks who want to teach our nation’s children false information about sex— false information like “hey, condoms don’t really work” and “abstinence until marriage is the only legitimate sexual choice.” And when I get worked up about that kind of thing, it sure seems...
There is a little battle happening inside my head right now.
Minty: Seattle Seattle Seattle I am so excited and I want to be there right NOW!
Minty, again: But my sister and my friends and my future niecephew and a paying job are all right HERE. Also, there’s Shake Shack. I never want to leave New York. I’m sad! So sad!

I made borscht last night too. I just don’t want to eat it now. If someone else had made it I’d be drooling because it’s perfectly yummy borscht. I guess it’s like the opposite of fart principle, I don’t like the smell of my own brand. Give me anyone else’s cooking but my own, please.

Today, I wanted revenge on the rabbit who ate my garden’s plants. When he returned, he was standing next to my brand new above-ground swimming pool. I pull out my 22. rifle and shot at it, but the bullet missed and popped a hole in my pool. 15,000 gallons of water flooded my basement. FML
Little fucker deserved it. Shooting at bunnies…what’s next, unicorn burgers?
Catching up is, at this point, a lost cause. I weep for the missed LOLz, but rejoice in my continued status as an employed person. Sometimes, trade-offs must be made.
My colleague is not happy with me.
My boss put me on an awesome project that she was supposed to be on, and gave her a bunch of crappy tasks on a different project. She’s not pleased, and I don’t really blame her. Granted, she’s junior to me, and so it’s sort of dues-paying…but it still sucks.
Also, we share an office. Awkward.
I told her that the invitation made my uterus hurt. Hopefully that’s the last of that.
