Right now, shrinking networks surround us— and not just the obvious financial ones. There is shrinkage in ecological networks as habitats are being destroyed. And whereas online social networks are in a phase of rapid growth, other types of social interactions may well be declining. Contraction seems to be a persistent feature of our society right now.
